What’s a food you grew up with that feels very ‘your family’?

Why: It’s funny, but also revealing. Those “wait, you didn’t grow up eating this?” moments can tell you a lot about family quirks, culture, and comfort food. For me, it’s that my family always drank milk with ice. Not a food, but it’s still a thing. Friends would come over and be like… what are you doing?

Who in your family shaped the way you eat — and what’s the one dish or food philosophy they passed down that stuck with you?

Why: Everyone has that person who either taught them how to cook or made food feel special. For me, it’s my mom — she’s a cook-from-scratch person (but not above a shortcut when it makes sense), and she always put together meals that were balanced — a carb, a veggie, a protein — without it feeling rigid or joyless. Very Ina Garten, very high-quality ingredients with love and intention. I think that’s why I care so much about feeding people well, not just feeding them.
